A data center development on the Sears campus would represent another major step in the reshaping of office parks and corporate headquarters underway across suburban Chicago. The sweeping, well-manicured corporate campuses in the suburbs that opened decades ago initially lost their allure as the firms realized that the professionals they were trying to recruit preferred working in the city. More recently, companies including Allstate, Baxter International and Walgreens Boots Alliance have decided to shed some or all of their suburban headquarters, office space they no longer need in the era of remote or hybrid work.
